HAVEN Celebrates Japanese Artisanal Denim in 'Washed Suvin Cotton Denim' Capsule
In preparation for releasing its ‘Washed Suvin Cotton Denim’ capsule, HAVEN has given us a behind-the-scenes look into the manufacturing process of its denim in the heart of Japan’s denim mecca, Kojima, in Okayama.
With over a century of textile history, Kojima is heralded for its artisanal approach to denim, balancing heritage and quiet innovation. It’s in this region that HAVEN’s Suvin Cotton Selvedge Denim builds its name, capturing the look and feel of well-worn workwear while possessing an unexpected soft touch. To bring out this authentic, timeworn character, each garment undergoes a series of specialised hand-finishing techniques by artisans, from hand-sanding and scraping, to achieve an aesthetic usually earned by years of wear. Once this is done, the garment is then enzyme-washed to soften the fabric and subtly fade areas of wear, creating a natural, lived-in patina. After it has dried, the Japanese artisans add final hand-finished details like whiskering and hem abrasion, followed by a light bleach treatment to refine the overall tone, contrast, and texture. The capsule is comprised of a Trucker Jacket and Jeans, arriving in two washes.
