HAVEN Goes Behind the Scenes of this Season's Leather Outerwear Program
HAVEN shines a light on the Japanese leathercraft behind this season’s Turbine Jacket and Station Type 01, following the materials from Himeji’s historic tanneries to the specialist garment workshops of Atsugi.
With a leatherworking history spanning more than a thousand years, Himeji provides the foundation for a process in which experienced craftspeople prepare, tan, dye, and condition raw hides, with each stage shaping the material’s softness, durability, and finish. For the Station Jacket Type 01, the surface is further refined into suede, exposing the underlying fibres to create a soft, tactile nap. Once finished, the leather travels to Kanagawa Prefecture, where specialist workshops select, cut and assemble each hide, accounting for natural variations in grain and stretch that influence everything from pattern placement to stitching.
