Purple Mountain Observatory Releases its Debut Footwear Project with Vibram
Marking a first for the London-based outdoor label, Purple Mountain Observatory has collaborated with Vibram to produce the Calyx.
First teased during Paris Fashion Week earlier in the year, the Calyx is the brand’s inaugural footwear silhouette, developed in collaboration with no better partner than Vibram. A modern interpretation of the iconic and lasting camp shoe, it is built for those moments between effort and recovery, a regular occurrence on any hiking escapade.
The shoe's upper is developed using Vibram’s StratX formula, resulting in a seamless waterproof finish sculpted from a single sheet of rubber compound, reducing the need for seams or stitching. Additionally, Vibram’s hand comes to play with its outsole technology; here, the Grivola provides a lightweight grip with its Megagrip compound for unparalleled traction and durability on the trails and tarmac.
The star of the lookbook is tattooist and hiker Alex Coates, covered from head to toe in ink. On his hikes, Alex often finds ram skulls, symbolic relics that become props in the imagery, connecting Alex’s body to the landscapes he moves through.
The Calyx arrives in two colours, an earthy brown and a loud, boisterous lilac/khaki colourway.
