mfpen Collaborates with Schott NYC to Reimagine its CWU Bomber Jacket
For Autumn/Winter ‘25, mfpen is collaborating with Schott NYC, the American outerwear institution, to reshape its CWU Bomber Jacket.
The origins of the jacket are rooted in the cold-weather uniforms (CWU) designed for aviation in the 1950s, later updated in the 1970s to include insulation, resulting in a boxier fit, which became part of the jacket’s defining structure. For Sigurd Bank, mfpen’s founder, the jacket holds a heavy dose of nostalgia, growing up immersed in skateboarding, hardcore, and graffiti culture. Now, the designer is reclaiming the jackets’ once-intimidating presence, going so far as to feature dancers from the Royal Danish Ballet during rehearsals. The result is a nuanced take on the bomber jacket, arriving in a black and navy recycled nylon ‘flight satin’, retaining its distinctive boxy silhouette, dual-entry patch pockets, and shirt collar, finished with mfpen signatures, like hook and bar collar fastening, exposed two-way RiRi zipper, and suiting label above the cuff.
